A night in the Sahara Desert
March 25, 2023Our bus tour to the Sahara desert was a three-day adventure that started in Marrakech. We joined a group of 12 people from all over the world, including two sisters from Canada, a Japanese couple with a young son, an Irish man and his French girlfriend, and many other interesting characters. Our group was a mix of ages, nationalities, and backgrounds, but we all shared a love of adventure and exploration.
On the first day, we stayed at a hotel in the town of Ouarzazate, which is known as the gateway to the Sahara. The hotel was comfortable, and we had a chance to get to know our fellow travelers over dinner. The next morning, we set off on a tour of the nearby villages. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site located about 30 kilometers from Ouarzazate. This village is famous for its traditional mud-brick buildings and has been used as a filming location for many movies and TV shows, including Game of Thrones. It was an incredible sight to see, and we learned a lot about the history and culture of the region.
After our tour of the villages, we headed out into the desert on the back of camels. It was a surreal experience, riding through the sand dunes, and seeing the vast expanse of the desert before us. We arrived at our campsite, where we were welcomed by a group of friendly Amazigh who set up our tents and prepared a delicious dinner for us.
As the sun set, we sat around a campfire, listening to music and watching the stars appear in the sky. It was an incredibly peaceful and relaxing experience, and we felt grateful to be in such a beautiful and unique place.
The next day, we woke up early to watch the sunrise over the desert, and then we hopped back on our camels to ride back to our bus. We spent the day driving back to Marrakech, stopping at various viewpoints and villages along the way. It was an amazing experience to see the changing landscape, from the desert to the lush green valleys of the Atlas Mountains.
Our journey to the Sahara desert was an unforgettable adventure that we will always treasure. We made new friends from all over the world, experienced the beauty of the desert, and learned so much about the history and culture of Morocco. If you’re considering a trip to Morocco, we highly recommend taking a bus tour to the Sahara desert and experiencing this incredible destination for yourself.
